As confirmed by Bolton Wanderers boss Neil Lennon this morning, the Whites have taken former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi on trial.

The 33 year old, released by Crystal Palace in the summer, played 397 times for Newcastle, scoring 79 goals.

Ameobi has recently had trials with Huddersfield Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers, but is now at Euxton hoping to earn a deal with Bolton.

Neil Lennon's search for a new striker continues after failing to bring in other targets.

The Whites have already failed with moves for Swansea City forward Marvin Emnes and West Bromwich Albion striker Victor Anichebe, and are still waiting to hear from Charlton Athletic striker Igor Vetokele, who is reluctant to move before being fully match fit.

It's also doubtful Yann Kermorgant will be available for now after striker Callum Wilson went off on a stretcher, in the Cherries 2-1 defeat at Stoke City. Wilson will now be out for the next six months.
