No need for a pleasant opening - Bolton Wanderers put in an abysmal performance on Saturday night away at Preston North End in a game truly deserving of its Halloween scheduling.

A real shit sandwich.

Ben Amos - 7

Our most reliable player. Rarely troubled, and comfortable in all he did. Deserves a better team in front of him.

Derik Osede - 4

Real Madrid you say? Presume it was a fallow year for their youth intake. Never a right back in a thousand parsecs.

Jose Manuel Casado - 7

Steady and consistent, strong in the tackle and tenacious in all he does. His pedigree showed with some classy movements forward.

Dorian Dervite - 3

Easily one of the poorest signings we have made in the past five years. I've seen milk turn quicker.

David Wheater - 8

Had a superb game. Dominant in the air and steady on the deck. Very encouraging.

Liam Feeney - 2

Tries his hardest, but it's just not good enough. Deserves to play in League One - will probably get that wish soon.

Josh Vela - 3

We are so desperate to think he's great, but is he really? I spoke last week about the need for him to take a game by the scruff of the neck - on this performance we couldn't argue with him being dropped. Again. Not good enough and needs to realise his future is at stake.

Darren Pratley - 3

He's back. The Pratley we all knew. I wish we had the one from last season but no, we've got the regular Darren back. Shame.

Jay Spearing - 6

Did well actually. Surprised me. Then he was substituted for no reason whatsoever. Bizarre.

Max Clayton - 5

Struggled in an unfamiliar role, and with zero help from midfield. Needs to find his best position because at the moment I have no idea whether he's a forward, a midfielder, or a sub.

Shola Ameobi - 4

Sigh.

The former Celtic gaffer has a million and one questions to answer. Why persevere with Derik at right back? Why take Spearing off? We have Josh Vela and Francesco Pisano who are better full backs.

Has he ever seen Dorian Dervite play? There can be no other explanation for the hapless Frenchman's continued selection than Lennon being completely and utterly mental.

The tide has turned, and we know how this ends.

Gets a point for having red hair.
