In front of around 17,000 fans, Wanderers managed to eke out their first win in about fourteen years with all players playing their part - even Liam Feeney, to an extent.
So candidates for Man of the Match were many in number. Josh Vela, Rob Holding, Prince Gouano and Zach Clough could all lay claim to that particular honour - but as far as I'm concerned there is only one winner - David Wheater.
The big-chinned ex-Middlesbrough man was our very own stallion. A true thoroughbred he was dominant in the air and cleared his lines with great ease throughout. Wheater has been at Bolton since 2011 and is finally showing the sort of form that we expected when paying £2.3m for someone who was, at the time, a seasoned Premier League defender.
Against the dangerous Jordan Rhodes and whoever their no.8 was, Wheater was brave and fought from the first minute to the last.
It's about time he stepped up to the plate, and let's hope we get more performances like this from the man.
