Yoohoo! Big Summer (Bolton Wanderers) Blowout!

New, comments

We're heading for a big clearout at Bolton this summer - but who should stay and who should go?

Julian Herbert/Getty Images

Things aren't great at Bolton Wanderers, that much is clear. The legacy of Dougie Freedman's disastrous two year spell in charge is still being keenly felt with present boss Neil Lennon struggling to make chicken salad out of chicken shit (thank you Stone Cold Steve Austin).

With the club seemingly safe from relegation, and with the club equally sure that they're going to miss out on the Play Offs, eyes will undoubtedly turn towards the summer break and the inevitable rebuilding job that faces the former Celtic manager.

That said, let's have a squiz at the present playing squad, and whether they should stay or whether they should go - and also perhaps what the future might hold:

No.

Contract Expires

Stay or Go?

Explain Yourself

1

Adam Bogdan

Goalkeeper

June 2015

STAY

Our best keeper may have his head turned by interest from higher level clubs.

2

Kevin McNaughton

Defender

June 2015

GO

Not good enough. Too slow. Not trusted by Lennon

3

Dean Moxey

Defender

June 2017

GO

See above.

4

Matt Mills

Defender

June 2015

GO

An average player who has had above-average spells. Not good enough ultimately.

5

Tim Ream

Defender

June 2017

STAY

Not perfect, but should stay as we are not exactly blessed with competent passers of the ball.

6

Jay Spearing

Midfielder

June 2017

GO

His race is run. Lennon doesn't fancy him and neither do I.

7

Liam Feeney

Midfielder

June 2016

STAY

One trick pony, but there's always a call for pace in a team.

8

Keith Andrews

Midfielder

June 2015

GO

Much maligned, and somewhat unfairly, but his time at Championship level is over.

9

Adam Le Fondre

Forward

June 2015

STAY

I like him. Has good energy. We should have signed him years ago.

10

Jermaine Beckford

Forward

June 2015

GO

Ha!

11

Robert Hall

Midfielder

June 2016

GO

Awful. When a player seemingly is afraid of the  ball it can create problems for that same player. No balls.

12

Max Clayton

Forward

June 2017

STAY

Obviously.

13

Ben Amos

Goalkeeper

February 2015

DUNNO LOL

No idea.

14

Dorian Dervite

Defender

June 2017

STAY

Hmm a tough one. Equally great as he is dodgy. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

15

Alex Baptiste

Defender

June 2016

STAY

Versatile. Given a tough ride by the BWFC fanbase, somewhat unfairly.

16

Mark Davies

Midfielder

June 2017

STAY

Put ‘stay' as  a joke. As if anyone would buy him!

17

Liam Trotter

Midfielder

June 2017

GO

Injury prone and just not very good.

18

Neil Danns

Midfielder

June 2016

STAY

Energetic and versatile, but needs to stop losing the ball in the centre circle.

19

Emile Heskey

Forward

June 2015

GO

Thanks for the goal against Blackburn, and goodnight.

20

Diogo Filipe Costa Rocha

Midfielder

June 2015

GO

This child needs to bulk up before coming back to play adult football.

21

Darren Pratley

Midfielder

June 2015

STAY

Who'd have thunk it? Our most important midfielder.

22

Eidur Gudjohnsen

Forward

June 2015

STAY

Of course. Ageing like a fine wine.

23

Marc Tierney

Defender

June 2016

GONE

Retired already.

24

Andy Lonergan

Goalkeeper

June 2015

GO

Lower league keeper for a reason. Few flashy saves, but very inconsistent.

25

Josh Vela

Midfielder

June 2017

STAY

The future.

27

Filip Twardzik

Midfielder

June 2017

STAY

Too soon to judge, so gets a pass.

28

Craig Davies

Forward

June 2015

GO

Attitude has improved this year, but he doesn't score enough goals.

29

Barry Bannan

Midfielder

June 2015

STAY

A class act. We don't have enough of those.

31

David Wheater

Defender

June 2016

STAY

Experience crucial, even if he's as slow on the turn as an oil tanker

32

Tom Eaves

Forward

June 2016

GO

Madness to give him a new deal in the first place. Non-league football beckons.

33

Hayden White

Defender

June 2016

STAY

Showed a few promising moments in his time in the first team. Give him a go!

34

Ross Fitzsimons

Goalkeeper

June 2016

GO

Herbalife needs you.

35

Conor Wilkinson

Forward

June 2018

GO

Give the boy a month's worth of steak dinners and see what happens....elsewhere.

37

Quade Taylor

Defender

June 2015

STAY

I do like his sideburns, and think the reserve captain should be on the bench every week.

38

Sanmi Odelusi

Forward

June 2016

STAY

A promising player riddled with injuries.

39

Chris Lester

Midfielder

June 2015

STAY

Another promising kid who needs to make an impact in the first team

40

Zach Clough

Forward

June 2017

STAY FOREVER AND EVER

You mean everything to me
And I don't want to lose you
You are my heart and soul
And I know our love is true.

Please don't ever leave me
Because I don't think I could live
Without your caring love for me
There is nothing for me to give.

My heart would break to pieces
My soul would be locked up
That would be how I feel
Like a prisoner with no love.

Oh, how horrible it would be
If you were not here by my side
Just to know you love and care for me
Without my tears to hide.

I love you with all of my heart
Nothing can make that not true
Because my life would be miserable
And I don't ever want to lose you.

41

Oscar Threlkeld

Defender

Unknown

GO

Not good enough.

43

Andy Kellett

Midfielder

Unknown

STAY

No idea what'll happen with Manchester United, but he's an interesting one.

44

Medo Kamara

Midfielder

June 2016

GO

Not good enough.

45

Simeon Slavchev

Midfielder

June 2015

DUNNO LOL

Bulgarian Frank Lampard? More like the Bulgarian Pat Lampard.

46

Georg Iliev

Forward

June 2015

GO

Time's time cocker. It's not going to happen.

47

Saidy Janko

Midfielder

June 2015

STAY

A brash, forceful presence. Worthy of a further look.

48

Niall Maher

Defender

June 2016

GO

Enjoy Blackpool LOL

52

Tom Walker

Midfielder

Unknown

STAY

Highly promising academy graduate. Needs to bulk up - come and live my life for a month son.

What do you think of Chris' choices? Comments welcome below the line.
