Blackburn Rovers vs Bolton Wanderers: Predictions

New, comments

Who will Neil Lennon choose for his starting XI? We don't know yet, but we do know who Dennis will choose, because he has written it down just for you.

We have been talking about injuries ad nauseum this week, so I would rather not focus on it.  Let's just say that we have two new players available in Giles Coke and Paddy McCarthy, and that both are likely to go directly into the squad for Wednesday's trip to Ewood Park.  In all honesty, if it were up to me, neither of them would be in the squad to face Blackburn Rovers.  Here is my starting XI:

Ben Amos

Saidy Janko Matt Mills Dorian Dervite Tim Ream

Liam Feeney Josh Vela Barry Bannan Neil Danns

Eidur Gudjohnsen Adam Le Fondre

The big thing for me, and I have said this many times before, is that Josh Vela should not play right back.  He is a solid right back, yes, but he is an outstanding central midfielder.  If he plays in the back line, we are weaker at two positions, whereas if he plays in midfield we are dominant at that position and only weaker at right back.  I think a right side combination of Janko and Feeney (or Janko and Danns) will give us enough defensively and more than enough going forward.  That's my story.

As for a final score, I'm pessimistic.  I said 2-1 to Bolton on the Lion of Vienna Suite Podcast, but I am going to change that, and say it will be a 1-1 draw.
