Yesterday reports were rife about Bolton Wanderers signing a Championship striker who is out of contract this summer, but no name was in sight.
The name of said striker has now been revealed, and Wanderers are now closing on the signing of Sheffield Wednesday striker, goal machine Gary Madine, as he turned down an offer to go to Birmingham City.
How the 24 year-old has come to earn that nickname is unknown to me, as he only managed to muster three goals in the Championship all last season. In fairness, however, he was the one slight idea of a spark in another wise completely atrocious Blackpool side. Madine was in the Wednesday team at the beginning of the last campaign, but was soon loaned out to League One outfit Coventry City, and now finds himself with out a club after being released by Sheffield last week.
The news of Madine's imminent arrival has provoked a range of reactions from Bolton supporters, some pleading for others to at least give him a chance and pointing to the suggestion that Neil Lennon may get the best of him, whilst others have pointed to his less than credible goal record and his even worse legal record as reasons not to sign him.
Time will only tell if the move will be a canny one from Neil Lennon, as he looks to get his transfer business done early, maybe the Northern Irish man will be able to get the best out of Madine, and besides, he mustn't be costing a whole lot.
We can only wait and see.
