The season isn't even a day old, and the long, laborious summer of us being linked with god knows how many players has already begun, as the Mail Online are reporting that Bolton Wanderers are interested in signing Rodolph Austin.
The Leeds United defensive midfielder's contract is up at the end of the season, and it does not look as if he'll be staying with the Yorkshire side.
Defensive midfield is certainly a position in which we are severely lacking, due to Neil Danns' form completely deteriorated, Jay Spearing and Medo Kamara probably leaving the club for good in the summer and the fact that I think we all want to see Josh Vela played further forward, rather than be shackled by defensive duties.
The Jamaican international could certainly fill that vacant role for us but, not wanting to completely judge a player before he's even signed for us, I've never been impressed with Austin. For the amount he's hyped up by Leeds supporters, I've always been thoroughly disappointed when I've watched him, mainly because the 'hard man' persona that's attributed to him has always been no where to seen when he's faced us. When we played Leeds at home earlier this season I remember Austin diving loads and acting like a real shithouse.
But, beggars can't be choosers and I'm sure Leeds fans will be able to share his good qualities with us all.
Austin has played 31 times this season, scoring three times, one of which was a penalty against us.
We'll be keeping a keen eye on this story if and when it develops.
