Bolton Wanderers have opted not to take their interest in Dutch centre back, Nick Kuipers, any further, passing on an opportunity to sign the defender.
You may remember Kuipers' name from earlier on this year, as the 22 year-old travelled to Lancashire, upon Neil Lennon's request, to undergo a trail. He impressed in his brief time at the club too, and I think most of us expected him to sign on this summer when his contract expired with MMV Maastricht.
However, due to undisclosed reasons, the Whites have decided not to bring Kuipers in, and the 6ft 3" defender has now committed his future to MVV, signing a new two year deal.
In light of this, and the recent revelation of long-term target Craig Morgan joining Wigan Athletic, one must wonder why Bolton opted not to complete a deal that seemed a foregone conclusion.
Perhaps the management changed their minds on Kuipers' quality, maybe they have a better centre back lined up to bring in or it might just be those dreaded finances, once again.
The real reason is unbeknown to me, but as the beginning of pre-season draws ever closer, with no new signings yet officially announced, worry and concern is certainly beginning to set in.
