Bolton Wanderers have today finally confirmed the signing of Gary Madine.
The striker has signed a two year deal after leaving Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer this summer.
24-year old Madine spent the latter half of last season at Championship bottom dwellers, Blackpool, and he was actually one of the very few bright sparks in their otherwise horribly dark season. He scored 3 goals in 15 games at Bloomfield Road. Not incredibly impressive on the face of things, but when you consider the fact it's one goal every five games, in an atrocious side, it's not too bad.
Madine, who's also spent time, often more than once, at Carlisle United, Rochdale, Coventry City and Chesterfield, will be coming to Bolton hoping to prove all his doubters wrong, after a less than savoury past. If anyone can turn his career around, I'm sure Neil Lennon can.
Lennon will no doubt be wanting Madine to replicate the role that Craig Davies played for us last year: a big, physical target man who can lead the line on his own.
From the photos of pre-season training, it would appear that Madine has taken the #14 shirt, formerly of legendary striker Kevin Davies.
