Done Deal: Conor Wilkinson Heads to Barnsley on Loan

In a move that comes as a shock to....nobody

Bolton Wanderers have today announced that young Irish (but not Irish really) striker Conor Wilkinson has joined Barnsley on loan.

The Reds tried to sign in the 20-year-old earlier in the summer on a permanent basis but were not able to match the four years that remain on his contract at Bolton. He has instead joined on a sort of try-before-you-buy deal.

He is, of course, a known quantity to Barnsley boss Lee Johnson. Republic of Ireland iU21 nternational Wilkinson played for Johnson when he was manager of Oldham Athletic last season, scoring three goals in 18 games for the Reds' League One rivals along the way.

He has made four senior appearances for Wanderers since joining from Millwall, though has been somewhat underwhelming in each.

A strong physical stature appears to be wedded to a slightness of touch which evokes memories of one Tom Eaves who whilst sharing a similar frame also appeared to be unable to actually 'do' anything with the ball.

We do of course wish him luck.
