Bolton Wanderers have finally announced the signing of Derik Osede from Real Madrid.
But who is he?
Commonly known as Derik, Osede was born in 1993 in Madrid to a Nigerian father and a Spanish mother. Derik started playing organised football at the age of eight, joining local side DAV Santa Ana's youth ranks. After being described as 'an extremely athletic centre-back with great vision', Derik's talent did not go unnoticed which consequently saw him join Spanish giants Real Madrid's youth ranks in 2002 at the age of 9.
The 22 year old played an integral role in Madrid C Team's return to Segunda División B in 2012. Osede made his official debut for Real Madrid Castilla on 20 October 2012, playing the full 90 minutes in a 0-1 away loss against Córdoba CF. Osede has featured heavily in Spain's second division with Castilla, where he became an integral member of La Fabrica.
Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti even included him in his 20-man squad for the 2014 summer International Champions Cup in the United States.
Osede has also enjoyed a successful education on the international stage whilst playing for La Furia Roja, Spain's national football team. Derik has played at all youth levels for Spain, starting at u16s, including two appearances for their Under-21 team.
Despite being involved with the nation's u21 side and according to BBC Sport ‘possessing the talent to potentially make the step up to Spain's senior side' Derik issued what appeared to be effectively a come-and-get-me plea to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), stating his intent to play for the Super Eagles.
Osede posted on twitter a heartfelt message to his Los Blancos fans, where he stated that, ‘After 13 years at Real Madrid it has come to the time to say goodbye, but I will fight to make it a see you soon'.
Osede has signed a three-year deal with Bolton following his release from the Bernabeu, and is currently busy integrating and training with his new team mates in Wanderers' training camp in Austria.
Lastly, for any FIFA fans out there Osede is currently a silver 65 rated player in FIFA 15, however he has the potential to increase to being rated 74.
Fingers crossed with this one, hopefully Osede will be a good'n.
