After two matches in the Championship only one team retains a 100 per cent record and, to the surprise of many, it is Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Seagulls followed up their opening victory against Nottingham Forest with an impressive 2-1 defeat of Fulham. Sam Baldock put Brighton in front only to see new signing Tom Cairney level for the hosts, but new Israeli striker Tomer Hemed sealed all three points with a last minute penalty - also his first goal for the club - after Kazenga LuaLua was brought down in the box by Shaun Hutchinson.
The match of the weekend came at Ashton Gate, where Brentford overcame Bristol City in a topsy-turvy affair. The hosts took the lead through £2.1m summer signing Jonathan Kodjia after two minutes only to see their lead eradicated seven minutes later by Alan Judge. City moved back in front through Aaron Wilbraham's goal, but the game turned on its head when forward Luke Freeman was sent off for a high tackle after 34 minutes. Brentford were back on level terms eight minutes later through a Derrick Williams own goal, then added two second half goals through Andre Gray and Philipp Hofmann to complete a 4-2 victory.
Brentford are among a host of sides on four points headed by promotion favourites Middlesbrough, who saw off a dire Bolton side in a comfortable 3-0 victory. Diego Fabbrini ran the show as Boro waltzed to victory, the Italian scoring the opener after seven minutes then setting up two goals for Kike to see the hosts 3-0 up inside 32 minutes.
Charlton Athletic are also in the four point pack, after following up last week's home victory over QPR with an equally impressive 1-1 draw at Derby County. Chris Martin salvaged a second successive draw for the hosts 20 minutes from time after Tony Watt had opened the scoring shortly after half-time.
Sunday saw two much fancied sides go head-to-head as Wolverhampton Wanderers hosted Hull City. Nikica Jelavic opened the scoring for Hull from the penalty spot on 22 minutes, but Wolves rescued a point after a goalkeeping howler by Allan McGregor allowed James Henry to equalise. The other Sunday fixture saw Reading and Leeds endure a dire 0-0 stalemate.
Ipswich Town collected their first victory of the season with a 2-1 home win over Sheffield Wednesday. Ross Wallace's 19th minute opener put the visitors ahead, only to see Freddie Sears bring Ipswich level just two minutes later. Tommy Smith nodded the hosts into the lead and they managed to hold off late pressure from Wednesday to seal the win.
Preston North End secured their first victory back in the Championship as they visited fellow newly promoted side MK Dons. Paul Gallagher scored from a fine counter-attack move on 28 minutes to seal a 1-0 victory for the away side, despite Dons enjoying 62% possession of the ball. Interestingly, MK Dons have still not beaten Preston in nine league clashes between the two sides.
Burnley had to settle for a second successive draw to start the new season having twice trailed at home to Birmingham in the early kick-off on Saturday. Jon Toral opened the scoring for the visitors, who held their lead until early in the second half when Will Keane headed home from a corner. Controversy struck minutes later as City were handed a dubious looking penalty when Clayton Donaldson was judged to have been fouled, and Paul Caddis smashed the ball home from the spot. But substitute Matt Taylor was the hero for Burnley, scoring a wonderful late free-kick to rescue a point.
Elsewhere, Cardiff denied QPR a first league win of the season with a late equaliser from Scott Malone. Clint Hill and Charlie Austin had given Rangers a 2-0 lead, only to see Cardiff strike back through Sean Morrison and Malone's injurty time effort. Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers also shared the spoils, as Nathan Delfouneso scored his first goal for the visitors to cancel out Nakhi Wells' tenth minute opener.
Rotherham remain glued to the bottom of the table with two defeats out of two, after losing to Nottingham Forest. The Millers threw away a lead handed to them by former Forest man Danny Collins, with Matt Mills equalising on the verge of half-time and Michail Antonio completing the comeback on the hour mark.
There's a quick turnaround in the Championship this week with a full round of mid-week fixtures. The pick of the bunch sees promotion favourites Derby and Middlesbrough go head-to-head at the iPro Stadium, while Hull welcome Fulham and Wolves entertain QPR.
