Lawrie Wilson Sets the Bar High at Fullback

According to his twitter bio 'he used to be shite, but now he's alright' - is that accurate?

Lawrie, mate, if you're reading this (which I'm sure you are), then I have to apologise.

I wasn't arsed when we signed you.

I had you down as a fair-to-middling right back, of reasonable pedigree, but who would probably struggle to rip up any trees at my beloved Bolton Wanderers.

Well, after half a dozen league games, I'm prepared to apologise for failing to give you enough credit.

I've gone on record before saying how I think we've struggled at right back for a good few years.

I was a huge fan of Mr Neil Cox who, in my opinion, was the best right back we've had in the last 20 years. I couldn't stand Gretar Steinsson - a right back who was more interested in currying favour with the East Lower sweaties than actually doing his bloody job.

Now before you get carried away, I'm not placing you on that pedestal after half a dozen games, but given your performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday I'm prepared to admit that you've set the bar very high.

Excellent in defence and superb going forward, your energy is welcome (but that top knot needs to go).

Francesco Pisano, an Italy international, is waiting in the wings - but there is absolutely no reason to remove Wilson from the starting XI.
