Bolton Wanderers v Oldham Athletic

Wanderers welcome local rivals Oldham to the Macron, searching for that rarity of your own player scoring a goal

Bolton Wanderers have now gone more than a month without one of their players scoring a league goal. Today they welcome Oldham Athletic to the Macron Stadium in the knowledge they could move just three points off the top of the league, despite a patchy run of recent form.

No Bolton player has scored a league goal since Mark Beevers scored his first for the club at MK Dons on October 10th. Goals have once again been hard to come by this season, with Bolton failing to win any game by more than one goal and their top scorer not even being at the club (Conor Wilkinson, on loan at Chesterfield).

But hopefully all that will change today, as Oldham visit Bolton in the league for the first time in 20 years, when the hosts came out 3-1 victors on 16th October 1996. Bolton have had the best of these battles over the years, coming out victorious 26 times compared to Oldham's 14 wins in their 53 clashes.

Wanderers bring Sammy Ameobi back into the side, in a starting lineup that seems likely to be continuing with the awful diamond formation. That could mean Tom Thorpe starting as the holding midfielder behind Jay Spearing and Josh Vela, with Zach Clough behind Ameobi and Gary Madine, fresh from his mid-week partying antics.

Oldham are likely playing a 4-4-2, with former Ireland international Paul Green in midfield, veteran Peter Clarke - who has scored on his only Oldham appearance - captaining the side at the back, and young Leeds United loanee Lee Erwin and Billy McKay, on loan from Wigan, leading the line.

Here are today's starting lineups. Stay in touch with all the action from the Macron, and let us know your thoughts on all things Wanderers related, in the comments section below.
