Bolton 3 Port Vale 1 - Man of the match: Sammy Ameobi

Lawrie Wilson, Josh Vela and Zach Clough came close but Sammy gets it and here's why.

Ameobi came of age at the Macron this weekend. There was still the odd brain fart causing his feet to lose the plot, but on the whole, Ameobi dazzled both the Port Vale players and the watching fans in this game.

His link up play with Lawrie Wilson destroyed the Vale left flank. The dribbles, the crazy leg moves where his foot could retrieve a ball hidden between three Vale players was fantastic to see. Whilst always looking like he was about to lose control, he generally didn't and Port Vale frankly didn't know what hit them.

His best move was the lead up to our second goal. After a combo with Lawrie, the ball looked like it was going out of play ( I had a good view and it didn't by the way). Ameobi took advantage of the Vale players hesitation, got round him and put in a well placed cross into the box that their keeper could only parry out to the waiting Josh Vela to tap home.

Hilarious scenes ensued as the Vale fans went into meltdown. My favourite being one particularly rotund individual making it known that he was going to do the linesman harm. Alas this meant getting over a barrier and by the time he finally managed it, two stewards were waiting to march him out of the stadium. Even more funny seeing as only 11 minutes had been played.

Anyhow, back to our Sammy.

Time after time he'd terrorise the Vale players. Even when he lost the ball, he would somehow get it back. For the 82 minutes he played Sammy Ameobi was a delight to watch.

Special mention has to be made for one point in the second half, where he ran back and put in a last ditch tackle when a Vale player looked like he was about to break through our defence. Great stuff.

Ameobi was out in his feet when subbed with 8 minutes to go. He came off to a standing ovation that included the more sensible Port Vale fans.

So Sammy, I both salute you and award you the coveted LOVS man of the match award. Well done and long may it continue.
