Bolton 2-0 Millwall: MOTM Josh Vela

Another good showing from the Academy lad

A few years ago, when we were famous, Bolton Wanderers were linked with the signing of Arsenal's Mexican forward Carlos Vela - an elegant forward who has gone on to make a great career for himself in La Liga.

At the time I thought that he would be a great signing. We had a dearth of quality strikers at our disposal at the time and I was fully behind the potential deal being done. Unfortunately as we know it didn't come to pass, and instead he moved to Real Sociedad and has, presumably, few regrets in life.

I also thought that he would be the best player called Vela that we would ever have.

I would have been wrong.

Josh Vela is a player whom I have criticised in the past. However, at the moment and in this new position in the attacking three he has been playing the best football of his career.

A wonderful goal today saw him cap a superb display - arguably the best of his entire Bolton Wanderers career.

More performances like these and it'll be his name mentioned in dispatches along with that of Zach Clough when it comes to a January transfer.

He was everywhere. Strong in the tackle and graceful moving around the field he was a shining light in a great team performance.

Well done Josh.
