Man of the Match: Bolton Wanderers 1-0 Coventry City - Derik Osede

Jonny’s love for our curly-haired Spaniard is back

It's never easy to choose a man of the match in a game where it feels like we got battered but still won. The first half of last night's game seems a long way away, after the second half dragged out for what seemed like an eternity.

The man who receives the MOTM gong this time round is our beloved Spaniard, Derik Osede. Narrowly pipping Zach Clough to the accolade, I thought Derik was excellent alongside Mark Baevers at centre half. He's mobile on the ball, almost naturally two-footed and gives us a different dynamic when we're trying to play out from the back. He made an outstanding, and I mean genuinely world class, block in the dying embers of the game to deny Coventry the equaliser they definitely deserved, and was generally pretty solid from a defensive point of view.

I love David Wheater and I think the partnership he and Baevers share is one we're lucky to have in our arsenal, but it's very reassuring to know that we have both Derik and Tom Thorpe to cover at centre half, should someone ever decide to fuck us over so badly that Wheater and Baevers are out at the same time.

I'm delighted Derik's back in the team and I hope he stays there for the foreseeable. Long may his reign of terror continue.
