Player Ratings: Bolton Wanderers 3-2 Sheffield United

Jonny reflects on the Wanderers’ win over ‘the greatest team in the world’

I can't believe we've beaten the best team in the world twice in the same year. Surely that means Phil Parkinson deserves a knighthood? Here's my ratings from our FA Cup triumph over the Blades.

Ben Alnwick - 6

By and large he was pretty good, although his distribution in the first half was dreadful at times. Sometimes he forgets how to kick a football, which isn't good. Was also beaten by a wicked deflection.

Andrew Taylor - 7

Decent. Very solid player who's growing on me every week.

Mark Baevers - 7

Another very, very good game for the Beevs. I'd love to see his stats compared to the other centre halves in League One - he must be on another level.

David Wheater - 7

Nice to have him back in the side. He was also very good. I think he and Baevers are my favourite two people in the world right now. Was robbed of a goal which upsets me.

Lawrie Wilson - 6

Did what he had to do, which wasn't anything particularly special. I don't expect our full backs to be world beaters but they're both doing their jobs well at the moment. Needs to work on his crossing.

Jay Spearing - 7

The beating heart of our midfield, he really does control the tempo of everything we do going forward. I've said it before and I'll say it again - he's one of the main keys to our promotion.

Tom Thorpe - 7

Also good. Mr Consistent - gets stuck in and gets the job done.

Sammy Ameobi - 8

Probably the best game I've seen him play for us. The first half was generally shit but he was the only person actually arsed about doing anything decent going forward. The first 20 minutes of the second half were his for the taking and he really impressed me. Scored an excellent goal, too. I'm still not 100% sold on him but I think I'd like us to keep him for as long as possible, rather than get a replacement.

Zach Clough - 8

Another great game for the little man. He's now starting to perform at the level I expect for a player of his quality.

Josh Vela - 7

Scored a good goal but I felt a lot of the praise he received post-match was misplaced - I thought he was uncharacteristically quiet on the ball. His energy is fantastic - some of the runs he makes off the ball are really clever - but if they don't get spotted (which seems to happen quite a lot) he gets frustrated and ends up running around like a headless chicken. I love him in that No.10 role, though.

Gary Madine - 9

If I was doing Man of the Match this week, Big Gaz would be getting it. Ran himself into the ground and was visibly exhausted towards the end. He had a hand in all three goals and I'm delighted he bagged one for himself. Hopefully he can kick on and get a few more now.

Although I’d rather we focus on the league, I’m happy we’re through to the next round and I’ll watch tonight’s draw hoping for a big team to come out against us. Who knows, we might get a league and cup double this year. *wink*
