YESSSSSSSSS! I mean that is what football is all about. 36 hours without sleep and I’m as awake as can be. A 90th minute goal from Kaiyne Woolery, sealing 3 points in what was essentially a relegation 6 pointer. Wanderer’s early lead had been squandered, it appeared for good but we are Bolton Wanderers and we don’t go quietly in to the night.
A changed line up from our 2-2 draw against Wolves saw Emile Heskey and Darren Pratley come in to the starting line up at the expense of Woolery and Trotter.
We couldn’t have got off to a better start. Despite being more accustom to conceding goals within the first few minutes of games; it was Bolton who drew first blood. Jay Spearing controlled a Mark Davies cut back, and slammed the ball home with just 2 minutes on the clock.
After the goal however, Rotherham noticeably got back in to the game and kept the pressure on the Whites. Amos had looked set to keep the winning margin at half time with a number of good saves but alas it wasn’t to be. A Danny Ward cross fired in to the net by Chris Burke.
The second half continued in much that vein; the early promise shown by Neil Lennon’s men felt as distant as Ricardo Vaz Te’s goal against Vitoria Guimaraes many moons ago.
A twist no one saw coming! Lennon making a substitution, pre 89 minutes in. Not only that but it also looked, on the face of it, a bizarre one. Liam Trotter came on for Wanderer’s only striker, Emile Heskey. Despite this leaving us striker-less, Trotter showed the good form that is redeeming him with the Wanderer’s faithful and was vital in quelling the Rotherham threat.
More subs came. The super awesome and amazing Kaiyne Woolery came on for Wellington Silva and Stephen Dobbie came on for Dazza Prazza.
Time was running out, as was hope. 3 minutes in to injury time however, a hero was born. Kaiyne Woolery pounced on to the rebound of a Liam Feeney shot to send us 2-1 up with little time remaining.
This is what football is about. We looked down and out just a few weeks ago. Now we are 3 unbeaten in the league with 2 wins in that 3. We can do this because after all. We are Bolton Wanderers! We specialise in being the underdog who never says die.
