They say you can't polish a turd - you can only roll it in glitter.
I don't know who 'they' are, but clearly they missed Liam Trotter's magnificent performance for Bolton Wanderers against Rotherham United this past Saturday at the Reebok.
Since returning from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest where he was reunited with Dougie Freedman, Trotter has been excellent.
He arrived in the game on the 64th minute, and proceeded to take it by the scruff of its metaphorical neck, adding steel and quality to a game short on both.
He simplified our football with short passes which, shockingly, found their targets. Not only that, he broke forward with purpose and worried the visiting side with his physicality. In short, it was the sort of Trotter performance that we thought we were getting when we signed him in the first place.
Not only that, his pass to Mark Davies which led to Kaiyne Woolery scoring was nothing short of excellent.
I hope it continues, because he was really, really good.
