The club today announced who the first team will be taking on as they prepare for the new season.

The first fixture is against local outfit Atherton Collieries. They play their league football in the NWCFL Premier and have recently won the NWCFL League Cup for 2015/16. This fixture will take place away from home on 2nd July. No doubt even they will be too good for Gary Madine to find the back of the net.

After that match there are as of yet unannounced plans for a training camp and fixtures abroad before the team returns to play the mighty Mansfield Town on 16th July. This fixture will also take place away from the Macron. Mansfield finished in twelfth place in League Two last season.

Then Bolton Wanderers will travel to Tranmere as part of Warwick Rimmer’s testimonial on 19th July. Bolton last took on the Vanarama Conference side in a pre-season game in 2014. Tranmere Rovers finished sixth last season just missing out on the play-offs.

This is followed by an away fixture at Crewe Alexandria on July 22nd. Crewe finished rock bottom of League One last season six points adrift of second from bottom Colchester. It seems like good preparation for Bolton to play the team they will probably emulate in the coming season.

The team will then play two home fixtures to round off their preparations. The first of these is against Burnley on 26th July as they look to prepare for their return to the top flight. Burnley won the Championship last season to gain an instant return to the Premier League and will no doubt be looking to improve on their last top flight campaign.

Bolton will then welcome Preston North End to the Macron on July 30th as we are now depressingly enough the weak local rivals they want to warm up against. Preston secured a top half berth at the end of last season, even being in sight of the play-offs until late on. They will no doubt be looking to go one better in the coming campaign.

The Bolton Wanderers XI fixtures have also been announced. They will kick off at Atherton as well on 2nd July before traveling to Radcliffe Borough on 9th July. Next up for them is Ashton United on 15th July and then Chester on 20th which are again both away from home. Then is a trip to York City on the 23rd July followed by the short trip to Chorley on 27th. They will round off their preparations on 2nd August against Ramsbottom United again away from home.
