Euro 2016 is nearly bloody here! Even though I'm going to miss most of the games in the first ten days due to being away, I still can't wait. I bloody love the Euros, it's a great tournament and there's nothing better than having game after game of football on, day after day after day. It's what dreams are made of.
Here are my predictions for this years tournament.
How far will England get?
I have a really good feeling about England this year. We have a great young team, full of attacking talent and best of all the squad seems to have a togetherness that we haven't seen since 1996. I still have some fears over what system Hodgson will use and the obvious defensive frailties, but I do reckon we'll go far. I'm going to say semi finals.
Your England Starting XI:
Joe Hart; Kyle Walker, Chris Smalling, Gary Cahill, Danny Rose; Eric Dier; Wayne Rooney, Jack Wilshere; Dele Alli; Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy.
Rooney is obviously starting so there's no point challenging it, however much I don't want him to be there. I think this team is well balanced and, providing Roy keeps the two strikers central, it could do a lot of damage.
Just a shame Drinkwater isn't going.
Who'll score more, Kane or Vardy?
Vardy
This all depends on Hogson being smart enough to see that Vardy has to be played on the shoulder of the last defender and balls need to be played up to him so he can run through and punish teams. If that's the case then he'll really punish teams.
Will Hodgson remain as manager after the Euros?
Yes
I think he will. Despite his obvious short falls as a manager he has to be given credit for bringing so many youngsters into the squad for this tournament and showing faith in them. England have the youngest squad at the Euros and Hodgson has been a part of making a younger, vibrant England side. There isn't really a better England manager for the job, so unless we're getting a world class foreigner I see no point in changing.
-
How far will Wales get? Last 16 - I think they'll finish second in the group, but it all depends on Bale.
Top Scorer: Gareth Bale
How far will Ireland get? Last 16 - Ireland have a very tough group, but with how the tournament is structured they could go through with a small amount of points. Must beat Sweden in their first game.
Top Scorer: Shane Long
How far will Northern Ireland get? 4th in the group - I do think Northern Ireland really could make it out of their group, they are a perfect underdog, but I have to go with head over heart with this one.
Top Scorer: Will Grigg
-
Competition Winners: France - Host nation, no dickheads in the squad, a wealth of exciting, brilliant players.
Runner Up: Germany - The world champions will come close, but not quite make it.
Final Four: 3rd England, 4th Belgium - I do think both of these teams will have a surprisingly good tournament.
Surprise Team: With how the completion is laid out this year I can see a few lesser nations making it out of the groups and then anything could happen. Can genuinely see any of Wales/Iceland/Croatia/Ireland/Austria/Czech Republic/Albania potentially making it to the quarter finals. However, my final answer is Iceland. My boys.
Flop Team: Italy. Awful squad, ravaged by injuries, manager with his head else where, I think Italy are going to flop big time. That or they'll shit house their way to a semi-final.
-
Second Team: Iceland
Any successes for the home nations?: I think the fans of every home nation will end up being proud of their country.
Office sweepstake team?: I do not have an office.
-
Golden Boot: Jamie Vardy. It's happening and there's not a single thing you can do about it.
Surprise Player: Eidur Gudjohnsen
Best player: In the hearts and minds of everyone it will be N'golo Kante, but Antonine Griezmann will clinch it as he's an attacking player.
Best young player: Anthony Martial
Flop Player: Cristiano Ronaldo
First Pundit to Say Something Stupid: All of them. simultaneously.
When will Liam stop supporting Ireland and start supporting England again?: When the sun rises in the East and sets in the west. When the mountains blow in the wind like leaves.
Your own bonus prediction: Dele Alli to be sent off in a knock out game and then get savaged by the media.
