Well fancy that

In a surprise move, Bolton Wanderers academy player Nathaniel 'Nat' Phillips has joined Premier League side Liverpool following the expiration of his Wanderers contract.

Phillips, the son of Jimmy, was due to head to America on a footballing scholarship when Liverpool stepped in at the last minute to give him a two year professional contract.

He went to the Merseyside club on trial at the end of July, as noted here in the Mirror and has done enough to earn a full-time deal. It is expected that he will report to their Development Squad where he will work under coaches Michael Beale and Neil Critchley at their Melwood training complex.

We of course wish Nat all the very best of luck at his new club and hope that he can make his mark in the Premier League very soon.

It does beg the question though as to why he was deemed surplus to requirements at Bolton Wanderers yet is deemed good enough for Liverpool! Football is a strange, strange game.
