AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Bolton Wanderers: Immediate Reaction

It has happened. It has finally happened. For the first time in well over a year Bolton Wanderers have managed to win away from home. Wanderers had to come from behind to finally break their duck but who the hell cares? Goals from Gary Madine and Liam Trotter followed to finally get us over the line. The squad was lacking in width and imagination on paper - a 442 diamond with a midfield of Spearing, Vela, Trotter and Davies. I must admit, looking at the team sheet, I had a bad feeling but what the hell do I know eh?

First of all it must be said well done Phil Parkinson. Any Wanderers side since Coyle would have capitulated having gone one down or at the very least thrown a 2-1 lead away. We didn't. He's changed us from a collection of losers and chronic let downs in to a hard to beat team with a 'fuck you' mentality. I like it.

It was Jamie Proctor and Gary Madine up top which was odd given we had no wingers to feed the 2 tall men. The both played far better for having a second striker alongside them however. It was obvious they needed better service but I really hope the 2 up top tactics last.

Once again Mark Baevers and David Wheater were rock's at the back. While Wheater's quality has never been in doubt, we're seeing the best of him that I can remember. I can only put it down to him having the longest period without being in the treatment room (please god don't let me jinx it). He would be my man of the match today.

Finally can we all just look at the league table. 2 wins on the spin. One of 2 teams still to have a perfect record and in 2nd position. Sod off anyone who says we're only 2 weeks in; which one of our previous managers or teams could have managed that? None. There are reasons to be cautiously optimistic in the long term. Short term, reasons to drink for happy reasons!
