According to the papers, Chelsea are after Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
A story in the Sun (I know, I know) newspaper this past weekend linking the defender to the Premier League also contained a snippet of information that passed me, and I suspect a lot of us, by at the time.
It reported that Bolton Wanderers were sniffing around the giant centre half at the same time as we chose to sign Matt Mills instead on a free transfer from Leicester City.
Koulibaly was, at the time, playing in the French Second Division for Metz, and was said to be on the move.
Instead of coming to Lancashire, he signed for Genk in the Belgian Jupiler League, where three solid seasons earned him a move to Italy and Napoli for £6.5m where his value has skyrocketed in the past 18 months.
So, whilst this is all a bit of fun based on something in a two-bob rag of a paper, it echoes stories from the past linking Bolton with wild and fanciful names from the wider footballing world.
Remember when we 'could' have signed Samuel Eto'o? When we nearly signed Didier Droga? When Rivaldo was signed and sealed? I remember being told once that Ruud Gullit had been spotted by Crompton Lodges. All rumours, all unfounded.
Perhaps Koulibaly is another of these, but only he and the club will know whether that's true or not.
Still, at least we had Matt Mills eh.
