What a debut this lad had. He's 6"3 which isn't exactly tiny, but he looks physically imposing next to David Wheater and his chin, making our defensive line look more solid than it has done since the days of Andy O'Brien and Gary Cahill (still miss you every day, Gaz). He's the perfect signing and our best bit of business so far this summer by a country mile. Calm, composed, defensively competent and a genuine aerial threat from set pieces, I couldn't have asked for more from him in his first competitive game for the Whites. I'm delighted to have him at the club and I think he's going to be in our midst for many years to come.
Narrowly pipping his central defensive partner, David Wheater, and midfield guardian, Jay Spearing, to the MOTM gong, he didn't really put a foot wrong all afternoon; something that's not easy to do against one of the best teams in this league on the opening day of the season.
