We here at Lion of Vienna Suite have been offering our predictions for the coming campaign over the last week or so. Even though I missed the deadline of the opening game of the season (what a great win, btw) due to being in a prehistoric place without regular internet access: Wales, here are my Bolton Wanderers predictions for you. They’ll all undoubtedly be wrong.
Your thoughts on Bolton’s summer activity:
What we’ve done has been alright, solid, but not very exciting. We’re still seriously short on depth in a number of key positions and our squad is far too thin.
Is Phil Parkinson the man to arrest Bolton’s decline?:
He was undoubtedly the best and the most exciting candidate out of the plethora of names that were mentioned, but I fear that no manager is capable of saving this club.
What else do you think we need before the season starts?:
A striker with a bit of pace and skill and, hopefully, the ability to finish should be the top of any transfer list Parkinson may have. Though I very much doubt we’ll be able to acquire one. More back up in fullback positions and on the wings wouldn’t go amiss either.
How do you see the season going?:
I honestly have no idea in the slightest. I won’t even pretend to have much knowledge about League One, its teams and what it takes to climb out of it because I do not. I think we have a squad of players who should be more than capable of getting out of the division, but yet I said that upon relegation from the Premier League.
Who will be our top goal scorer and why?
Zach Clough. He takes penalties and free kicks, for one, but he’s also far and away our best finisher. It’s not even a contest.
Who will be our best player and why?:
I guess by virtue of scoring most of the goals Clough, but I can also see Jay Spearing fully redeeming himself in the middle of the park and I think Mark Beevers will prove to be a very important player at the back.
Who will be our worst player and why?:
Dorian Dervite because he is Dorian Dervite.
Who will be booked the most?:
Darren Pratley because if there is one thing he loves it is needless yellow cards.
Who will get sent off the most?:
Probably Dervite, but I’m hoping he doesn’t play enough games to take that particular accolade.
How many injuries will we have throughout the season?:
I can’t count that high.
Will Phil Parkinson still be our manager come the end of the season?:
The only way he won’t be is if he gets fed up and leaves on his own accord, no way we’ll sack him.
Will we still have Zach Clough come the end of the season?:
Yes, but it will probably be his last season here.
Which old, semi-legendary player will we sign in Winter?:
Whoever it turns out being, he will only be a legend to Rotherham. Or Kevin Nolan.
Where will we finish and why?:
I’m hesitant to say this because, as mentioned, I have little knowledge on the division and it’s impossible to predict how Bolton will do. However, I am an optimist so I will say in the top three, leaning towards the automatic places.
