What a shit game. Let's get straight into it.
Mark Howard - 6
Great goalkeeper and our second best summer signing after Mark Baevers. Wasn't troubled much but I thought his distribution was a little off.
Lewis Buxton - 5
Turned inside out more than once by a few players, but he did okay. He's a very, very average full back and makes me nervous when he has the ball at his feet.
David Wheater - 6
Another off-ish game for Wheats.
He was good in the air but there were a few occasions when he was caught in possession and his positioning looked a little questionable at times. Not sure what's wrong with him at the moment. Chin up, Dave.
Mark Baevers - 7
Man of the match by a country mile.
Some brilliant last ditch tackles, covering, headers and general defending. We'd be properly fucked without him.
Dean Moxey - 6
Looked better after his rest but still seems a little out of sorts.
Was better going forward than defensively, but there's nothing new there. 10,000% better than Taylor in that position.
Jay Spearing - 6
Managed to get himself booked AGAIN, which pissed me off, although to be fair, that was because of poor refereeing. Some decent passes here and there but he gave the ball away far too often for my liking. We're absolutely better with him in the team though; good to have him back.
Liam Trotter - 4
Anonymous once again. I'm actually bored of writing about how shit he is.
Should be dropped, replaced by Derik in holding midfield, allowing Spearing to push further forward.
Josh Vela - 6
Average game for young Josh.
His frustrations began to show in the second half but his attitude seems to be good, despite being played way out of position.
James Henry - 5
Poor.
Arguably his worst game for us so far. Didn't really do anything of note and, for a player of his quality, he should be making more of an impact on games.
Sammy Ameobi - 6
Without question our most dangerous player going forwards but he burned himself out too quickly. He was great in the first half - especially considering he had next to no help from Jamie Proctor - but by the time the second half rolled around, he looked ready for a rest. Should definitely start more games in future as he's our only real attacking threat.
Jamie Proctor - 5
Disappointing to say the least.
He's a big lad and should be holding the ball up much better (which he did a few times in the second half) but, by and large, his first touch was from the same school as a baby elephant's and his attitude was pretty poor. He operates as an individual which really fucks me off. Has to do better in the absence of Gary Madine (who we miss dearly).
Tom Thorpe - 5
Pretty sure he only touched the ball twice. Yet to make any sort of impression on me.
Zach Clough - 6
Did what he could when he came on, and it's great to have him back, but he needs more support up top if he's ever going to be effective for us. He'll get no protection from referees in this league, so he needs players like Madine and Proctor to give him the service to really exploit teams.
In summary, Bolton Wanderers are very "meh" at the moment. With the news that a few more key players (Baevers and Wheater, plus a couple of others) are set to miss tomorrow's game at Rochdale, the future is very uncertain for us.
Very uncertain indeed.
