Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Scunthorpe United: Man of the Match - Josh Vela

It wasn't his best game ever, but Vela was pretty brilliant yesterday

What a fucking win, and what a way to end what was a horrible year for Bolton Wanderers.

Yesterday’s win against then-league leaders Scunthorpe was a very important game for various reasons, but the fact we won gives us a huge psychological boost for the second (and most crucial) half of the season.

There were plenty of players to choose from to give this week’s Man of the Match award to, but I've decided Josh Vela is most deserving. I've said it before many times and I’ll say it again; his movement off the ball in that No.10 role is fantastic. The more games he plays there, the better he gets, and he's even started popping up with cracking goals like the one he thumped home yesterday.

His energy gives us a new dimension going forward; it allows him to work between the lines and cause mayhem in front of the opposition’s defence. He's one of our most creative players in terms of making things happen and I’m genuinely delighted he’s been saved from the perils of playing at full back. Having said that, his experience in other areas means he isn’t shy of putting his foot in and defending from the front either.

He’s going to be a key asset for us for many years come, so I hope we can keep hold of him as we march up the Football League.

Congrats Josh, u da best xo
