I really enjoyed that.
Bolton Wanderers outfought and outplayed Premier League Crystal Palace earlier today in a foggy game at the Reebok.
So without further ado I present my ratings:
Ben Alnwick - 8
Another excellent performance from our best goalkeeper. Loic Remy hit the post early on but I bet he had it covered. Our no.1 and deservedly so.
Lawrie Wilson - 7
Struggled early on - as did our whole defence - against a talented two man Palace attack but attacked well in the second half and was his usual solid self as the game wore on.
David Wheater - 7
After a first half that was the 'old' Wheater of last season, with rash lunges and poor decision making, he dealt with Fraizer Campbell well in the second 45. I just wish he could've got on the end of some of our set pieces.
Mark Beevers - 7
Similar to Wheater he was tested like never before in the first half - but the Palace switch to one up top helped him out. I'd like him to be more of a threat at corners though.
Andrew Taylor - 8
Another good performance from our steady Eddie. Did well on the attack and coped manfully with Palace's attacking pace.
Tom Thorpe - 7
The hipsters favourite had another flighty game with moments of genius mixed in with other moments where he looks like he's a competition winner. I think I just about like him.
Jay Spearing - 7
A superb battling performance. It's almost like he knows his contract is up and he's become accustomed to eating food that isn't from the Whoops! aisle. Cynicism aside, he was excellent both in the tackle and on the ball.
Zach Clough - 7
A couple of dodgy decisions on his part meant he was quieter than usual but he was a threat - so much so that Palace doubled up on him in the second half and this gave the likes of Henry and Taylor room to thrive.
Josh Vela - 8
A quiet first half led to a much better second. Did well to generate the required power on his header and can be happy with his performance.
James Henry - 8.5
Definitely his best game for the club. Was a real threat on the right cutting in, and should've scored with his first half volley on the run. The confidence of knowing that he's going to be first pick from now on should mean more performances like this.
Gary Madine - 7
Battled well and chased down the odd lost cause but was still nowhere near scoring a goal. Struggled at times against the Palace defence but to his credit he didn't give up and can similarly be proud of his graft. Oh and should've had a penalty.
