No messing. Here are your Bolton Wanderers ratings:
Ben Alnwick - 8
Hugely important. Was solid and reassuring, as well as making a couple of match-winning saves. Undisputed no.1.
Mark Little - 7
Poor final ball in attack, and struggled in the first half leaving space for his attacker but was much improved when Morais came on.
David Wheater - 7
Headed every ball and barely gave Gary Hooper and Jordan Rhodes a sniff.
Mark Beevers - 7.5
His best performance of the season. So glad to see him back to somewhere near his best.
Andrew Taylor - 6
Quiet, but that’s because he had little to do.
Darren Pratley - 6.5
Atrocious when on the ball, as ever, but his energy was vital in the middle and as such was also his best performance of the season.
Karl Henry - 7
He’s a such a bellend! Did you see when he threw the ball away from the Sheffield Wednesday players as they tried to take a quick free kick? He’s exactly what we need and I’m already convinced that he’s the signing of the season.
Sammy Ameobi - 8
Man of the match. Easily. Tireless work and fantastic moments of skill. Faded a little as the game wore on and as his thigh injury took its toll, but otherwise superb.
Josh Vela - 7
So glad he’s back. Thought he started slowly, with several misplaced passes, but as he got into the rhythm of the game he became ever more important, offering Madine the support that he has badly missed.
Adam Armstrong - 6.5
He’s doing a job, clearly, but it’s to the detriment of his own game - still, he ran tirelessly and was a useful outlet on the break.
Gary Madine - 7
Another up and down performance. He was a colossus in the air and fought well against their defenders, but that miss shows why he will always have questions surround his place in the side. Could’ve wrapped the game up - ultimately it didn’t matter, but it still gave a stark reminder of where he falls short. Despite this, he should be very proud of his overall performance.
Substitutes
Adam Le Fondre (unused)
Craig Noone - 7
Came on and was very positive. Two great runs and was tidy in possession when we needed it most.
Antonee Robinson (unused)
Josh Cullen - n/a
Can’t really remember him touching the ball enough to warrant a mark.
Filipe Morais - 6.5
Contributed really well when he came on, including crossing for the second goal, gets marked down slightly for his part in their goal but otherwise much better.
Reece Burke (unused)
Mark Howard (unused)
Manager
Phil Parkinson - 8
Pushed Wanderers forward at long last and it paid off. Very pleased for him and his team. Some of the jip being sent his way lately was a bit personal for my taste, and he deserves to enjoy his weekend after a hard-fought win.
