Despite extending their unbeaten run to seven games, Bolton Wanderers let a two goal lead slip against Reading on Tuesday night.
Usual Man of The Match contenders Sammy Ameobi and Gary Madine had off games, so it was quite an easy decision to hand the man of the match to Darren Pratley.
Why Darren Pratley? Well, our captain was the best Bolton Wanderers player by far. Because of the impact Karl Henry has had on the team and Darren Pratley himself, Pratley has more freedom during a game.
Against Reading, not only was Pratley everywhere, winning the ball and putting heavy pressure on the Royals’ defence and midfield, but he also had a hand in both goals.
Pratley flicked Josh Vela’s free kick towards Reece Burke, who scored his first goal for the club. Burke also had a good game filling in for the suspended Mark Beevers.
Pratley then doubled Wanderers’ lead with a terrific header from a Josh Vela corner.
It was easily Darren Pratley’s best performance of the season, the sort of which I hope he shows on a more regular basis.
Notable mentions go to Josh Vela and Antonee Robinson. Vela’s set piece delivery was much improved from recent games, whilst Robinson linked up with Adam Armstrong well again on the left flank.
Let’s hope Wanderers can get back to winning ways against Wolves on Saturday, although I highly doubt it.
