You may have seen that today marks 15 years since Bolton Wanderers signed one of the two greatest players I've ever seen pull on the white shirt. So here is a poetic ode to Bolton and France legend Youri Djorkaeff...

Fifteen years ago today,

Big Sam signed yet another foreigner,

But little did we know that this French mercenary,

Would become possibly the greatest ever Bolton Wanderer.

——

Before Monaco, PSG and Internazionale,

In the mountains of Grenoble he played as a junior,

And when he played football internationally,

He became a World Cup winner.

——

A champion of Europe he also reigned,

Yet despite those heady, heady heights,

His greatest times in football remained,

As Big Sam signed him for the mighty Whites.

——

The spectacular overhead kick against Charlton,

A Carling Cup final and the catalyst to avoiding relegation,

Who became a Bolton Galactico with Okocha, Campo, Hierro and... Simon Charlton,

We'll forever love him for 'The Lob' over Brad Friedel at Blackburn.

——

A Bolton legend he was, let it never be forgot,

A world-class player deadly with right foot and left,

Who we'll remember fondly as 'Le God,'

Thanks for the memories Youri Raffi Djorkaeff.
