Enough has been written about the simply wonderful day yesterday, so I shall simply remind you we are indeed going up and crack on with the ratings.
Mark Howard - 8
Mark had a good game including one brilliant save. His distribution was better than normal and he controlled the pace of the game well. That said he did still spill the ball on a couple of occasions. Despite improving on his distribution, there were still some dodgy kicks. Wonder if we'll be seeing him as number 1 next year.
Dorian Dervite - 9
He had one of his best games in a Wanderers shirt yesterday. He put in a sumptuous cross for the opening goal, had an amazing mazy drive from the back that deserved a goal and defended sternly. Out of contract: Some will ask if he can cut it a level above quite justifiably. If this is to be his last Wanderers game, he's ended on a high note.
David Wheater - 10
As perfect as it gets. Not just the heart of the defence but the heart of this team. Kept United quiet all afternoon, looked a threat at every set play and got the all important 2nd goal to kill the game off. It's an amazing tale of redemption and I'm sure we'll be seeing him next year.
Mark Beevers - 9
Beevers did what Beevers does. A cracking performance from the one who dons the magic hat. He very nearly got himself a goal with a thunderous drive and was again, defensively sound. No qualms about seeing him in the Championship
Filipe Morais - 8
Perhaps the best signing in recent history purely on a cost/impact basis. Morais had the beating of the young full back all afternoon and his final ball was back to his best. Whilst he didn't bag himself an assist, his all around play was brilliant. Put in a decent shift at the back as well, not that I want be seeing him as a wing-back in the division above.
Andrew Taylor - 9
The more I see of him, the more I love him. What he does, he does well. Defensively I never doubted him and his calmness in possession really helps when we decide to play it on the deck. Got a lot of key passes in yesterday that won't be of 'assist' note, but where none the less important. We need to sign him for next year.
Jay Spearing - 8
The Scouser has certainly regained his mojo back in league 1. He was his normal tireless self in the middle of the park and doing a lot of the safe and nasty jobs that don't grab headlines. He has been the gel that holds the midfield together in this game and for most of the season. Deserved to lead the team out on the day of our greatest achievement in years.
Jem Karacan - 9
I really, really like this guy. One of our respected LOV writers rightly pointed out that he's the best example of a Holden-type player since he departed. A great box to box midfielder with bags of energy and an asset at both ends. He was great in the build up play yesterday, harried their players all afternoon and got himself on the score sheet with the important first goal which calmed the nerves (some finish and all). Hope we sign him with lots of centre midfielders departing.
Josh Vela - 10
A great performance from a player who has really come in to his own this year. He harassed their players from the very first minute and showed calmness on the ball. He was the mastermind of our 3rd goal with a mazy run and the sort of deft touches that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Champions League. A great end to the season for him.
Gary Madine - 9
We can stop the debate about Madine for a bit and just enjoy his performance yesterday. He was towering, won headers and controlled the knock downs perfectly. He was great with the ball at his feet and was always available for the midfield. All that was missing was a goal which his play warranted,
Adam Le Fondre - 8
It was frustrating at times for the talismanic front man. At times you can see he is making runs other don't see or receiving balls he really shouldn't be receiving. He never sulks however, never stops working and never stops making those runs. I'm always so impressed with how hard he tries to compete in the air with men far taller than himself. Eventually his determination paid off with the 3rd goal of the day. The icing on the cake to a brilliant season.
Substitutes:
Darren Pratley - 7
Didn't really impact the game after his arrival. Was smart in possesion a couple of time and made some nice runs however.
Conor Wilkinson - Unrated
Came on at the 90th minute. No real time to make an impact.
