Five of the 15 players whose contracts expire next month have been told they will be leaving the club come 30th June, and one player contacted beyond that has been told he is free to speak to clubs interested in him.

Liam Trotter, Lewis Buxton, Tom Walker, Reece Wabara and Will Jaaskelainen are set to leave the club when their contracts expire, with Conor Wilkinson told he doesn’t feature in Parkinson’s plans for next season's campaign in the Championship and that he is free to find a new club.

These decisions will come as no surprise to Wanderers fans.

Liam Trotter, although appearing 73 times during his three-year stint, was never taken too by Wanderers fans who will be glad to see the back of the ex-Millwall man.

Lewis Buxton filled a gap at the start of the season, but never looked fully fit and was eventually sidelined for most of the season with a back problem.

Tom Walker, who spent most of this season on the bench at Bury, made his way into the Bolton first team for Neil Lennon making 20 appearances and scoring one memorable goal away at Wigan. Walker had a wonderful left foot and was brilliant at crossing from the left-hand side, but his lack of physicality and his none existent adaptability meant he couldn’t hold down a first team spot and eventually was loaned away from the club.

Reece Wabara made one appearance for the whites this season and will have his clothing brand to concentrate on after being released.

Will Jaaskelainen, son of Jussi, never had the chance to play for the first team and with the emergence of England U19 goalkeeper and our young player of the year Jake Turner, it looked unlikely Will would ever break into the first team.

Conor Wilkinson was brought to the club by Dougie Freedman and was loaned out about 100 times to different clubs before being given a few chances in the first team this season. Conor never fulfilled his potential and Wanderers’ fans won’t be too disheartened by his eventual departure.

Phil Parkinson will be sharpening his axe once again as more big calls are expected on 10 other players whose contracts expire next month.
