Bolton Wanderers Ladies will kick off the upcoming campaign at their highest ever level of the game, having won promotion to the Women’s Premier League last season.
Since then, the side has been on a signings spree in a bid to strengthen the squad, already bringing in no fewer than six new players in pre-season. The club’s focus has been well and truly on youth - including exciting 18-year-old midfield playmaker Gemma Yeldrem.
Here at LOVS Towers we’ve kept a close eye on the club’s progression ever since we first wrote about them at the end of their best ever season this time last year - which they went and bettered in the campaign just gone.
In keeping with that spirit, we wanted to do our bit to support the club. So myself and my fellow LOVS writers have chipped in to sponsor Gemma for the coming season - and we had a chat with her to find out what to expect from our new signing.

Gemma, whose favourite player is Lionel Messi, told us: “I am really excited to have been offered the opportunity to sign for Bolton Wanderers. I am enjoying the atmosphere and experience so far and really cannot wait for the season to start.
“I decided to sign because I believe the club is looking to progress. Also I believe it will be the best place for me to develop as a player. I think the club has shown this by getting player sponsorships such as what you have done for me and the off field events we get involved in.”
Gemma is a player with plenty of pedigree and promise, having previously been with Women’s Super League 1 clubs Everton and Liverpool before moving on to Premier League side Fylde. And club secretary Darren Butler told us she’s a talented midfielder who was the star performer in their most recent pre-season friendly last weekend.
In Gemma’s words: “Throughout my time at various clubs I have played in many different positions but this season I am looking to play in a midfield role. Depending on whether I play slightly deeper or higher up the pitch I like to help control the game. I like to work hard and press, but when I am in possession of the ball I want to show my range of passing.”
