One for the future?

Promising New Zealand youth international Adam Mitchell has signed a contract extension with Bolton Wanderers until the end of the season.

Mitchell, a 21 year old centre half, has been a mainstay in David Lee’s U23 side this year, contributing to their fine form.

The U23s are now unbeaten in nine, following on from Monday’s 3-2 against Sheffield United at Leyland. Mitchell was actually on the scoresheet in that game.

Adam Mitchell has had a varied career. Born in Croatia, he started with New Zealand side Wanderers Special Club in 2013, before moving on to play for WaiBOP United in 2015.

Mitchell then moved to Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade in 2016, but failed to make an appearance.

A brief stint in Slovenia with NK Celje followed, before Mitchell was handed a trial alongside Julio Baptista at Wanderers in September.

Mitchell has also played nine times for New Zealand’s U20 side.
