Forward thinking: Five strikers Bolton Wanderers could consider

With a week to go, Wanderers are still looking for new signings

With a week to go in the January transfer market, Bolton Wanderers are still looking for that added bit of quality. Somebody to help keep them up this season.

Obviously, finances are tight. So with loans and freebies the only options, Phil Parkinson and his transfer team have to work that extra bit harder, to secure players that will work alongside the clubs’ wage structure.

It’s already been reported that players like Derby County’s Chris Martin are out of Wanderers’ reach financially.

So, here are some players Bolton could consider with a week to go.

Oliver McBurnie

21 year old Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie is the first option on the list. Seemingly available on a loan deal, McBurnie has been rumoured with moves to other Championship clubs, as well as SPL side Rangers. McBurnie saw a move to Barnsley collapse in September.

Carlton Cole

Next up is former Chelsea, West Ham United and England striker, Carlton Cole. Wanderers have previously been linked with the 34 year old, who has been training with AFC Wimbledon recently. With Birmingham City and Hull City thought to be eyeing a deal for Cole, should Wanderers throw their hat into the ring as well?

Darren Bent

Former England international Darren Bent is another option. Burton Albion have been trying to seal a loan deal for Bent this window, so should Bolton be after him as well? Wages might be an issue, and he also doesn’t match the target man criteria the club seem to be going for. Saying that, he’s a goalscorer, just needs to be playing consistently.

Atdhe Nuhiu

Preston North End v Sheffield Wednesday - Sky Bet Championship - Deepdale

Sheffield Wednesday striker Nuhiu was linked with a loan move to Wanderers back in the Summer. The 28 year old is out of contract in the Summer, and has only played eleven times for Wednesday this season. Definitely falls under the umbrella of target man. Wanderers have had success with one former Owl, so why not go for another?

Chuba Akpom

Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom also seems to go out on loan to The Championship at some point, having previously played for Nottingham Forest, Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion. Now 22, Akpom has yet to have to his Afobe MK Dons moment. Maybe he’d do that with a loan spell at The Macron? If it worked for Jack Wilshere, it could work for Akpom.
