As 11pm closes in, there’s still plenty of business left to be done. With lots of talk surrounding the importance of finding a replacement for Gary Madine, there hasn't been much of a mention regarding today’s possible outgoings.
As Ken likes to tell us, his squads too big. To an extent I agree, however, the lads missing out aren't necessarily not good enough, just simply out of favour or can't be slotted into Phil Parkinson’s preferred system.
This inevitably knocks morale and as for the likes of Derik and Jem Karacan, these lads won’t be happy to sit on the bench forever.
Throughout the season, theres been whispers of how Derik could be on his way. However, only in the last few days has it come to light that the departure of Karacan is also on the cards.
Unsurprisingly these boys will be wanting game time and whilst we can't offer them that here, they serve no purpose other than to warm the bench. Despite the odd injury and suspension here are there, we still have enough replacements to cover these without a couple of these lads who have been previously so instrumental in our success last season.
Despite no formal gossip arising surrounding the departures of these players, it wouldn’t surprise me if clubs swooped in for these guys at the last minute, to which at this stage, I doubt Ken would object to and there wouldnt be much resistance to let them go.
Unfortunately, this is the way football is these days, its a cruel business.
The chances are that we could easily keep hold of Karacan and Derik but could just as easily be sent packing if anyone comes calling which is a real shame considering that they haven't disappointed in the contributions that they were allowed.
Other exit’s could include loan moves for youngsters Jeff King and Connor Hall, however, it appears that given the pair’s form for the U23’s, Ken will be more reluctant to let these lads go and with no formal interest shown by any particular club as of yet, they sit comfortably as Bolton players at present.
One or two who I do think warrant exits are Stephen Darby and Chris Taylor. Between them, injuries and just a general lack of quality has meant that neither has made much of an impact for the club and wouldn’t be dearly missed if either one or both of them leaves today. If anyone’s likely to leave today, it’s probably going to be one of these two.
Dorian Dervite may be another on his way out should Reece Burke return on loan, however, Dervite has slowly wormed his way back into the match day squad and isn't as out of favour as he previously was yet still may face the chop if a mass exodus ensues.
Other than the obvious departure of Madine therefore, there could be a few shocks on the cards as the last few hours roll by but we’ll just have to see what happens.
It’s not over until the fat la...wait no, its just when it turns 11 isn't it...
Anyway, stay tuned.
