Speaking to the Totally Football League Show podcast, the Welsh midfielder Dave Edwards publicly backed Phil Parkinson to take over at the Madjeski Stadium.

“Phil Parkinson is a huge fans’ favourite here,” he told the podcast.

“Every time he comes to Reading with Bolton he gets a rapturous reception.

“He’s doing wonderful things at Bolton when you think of the things he’s going through.

”He would be a shrewd appointment by the club. I’m sure there are plenty of people who see the club as a good one to come and manage."

Phil Parkinson

Phil Parkinson made over 350 appearances for Reading over an eleven year period with the Berkshire-based club. As things stand, he is a clear bookies favourite to take over from Paul Clement. Whatever happens; let’s hope that this speculation, along with the other off-field events of late, hasn’t affected preparation for Wanderers’ clash with Leeds United at the weekend.
