As reported by Marc Iles of The Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers have taken Sunderland midfielder Chris Allan on trial. The youngster is set to play for David Lee’s U23 side tonight against Cardiff City.
So, who is Chris Allan?
Well, the 19 year old has been with Sunderland his whole career so far. Primarily a defensive midfielder, Allan can also fill in on the left side of midfield.
Allan has made ten appearances for Sunderland’s U23 side this season, and has also had a loan spell with Dunston UTS.
The youngster has reportedly been told he is free to leave Wearside should he find a club. Allan’s contract with Sunderland expires at the end of the season, so could sign for free should he impress during his trial.
Our SB Nation cousins, The Roker Report, had this to say an Allan:
“I’ve seen him a handful of times. Very unspectacular player but he’s primarily a defensive midfielder. Has suffered from others being further up the pecking order I think (E Robson and Embleton).”
As well as Chris Allan, Wanderers have also had a look at Plymouth duo Alex Battle and Callum Rose in recent weeks.
