Bolton Wanderers U23s have just capped off a magnificent season by clinching the Professional Development League title, after beating Nottingham Forest at the City Ground 2-1.

Wanderers had qualified for the Play-Off final after beating Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night 3-1, thanks to goals from Jeff King, Dennis Politic and Liam Edwards.

David Lee’s side got off to a great start against Nottingham, taking in the lead in the sixth minute with a goal from Stephen McKenna.

The Young Whites doubled their lead just before half time, as Dennis Politic grabbed his second goal this week.

Forest sub Danny Preston scored with just over ten minutes to go to give the home side a glimmer of hope, but Wanderers held firm to claim their first Youth Championship since 1995.

It’s an even more remarkable achievement given the fact that David Lee’s side lost six of their first seven games.

Connor Hall also finished as the PDL’s top goalscorer with 22 goals.

It’s been a tremendously successful season for the U23s, as well as the U18s. It just goes to show what fantastic work Jimmy Phillips, David Lee, Tony Kelly and Nicky Spooner are doing.

The future certainly looks bright at Bolton Wanderers.
