Aaron Wilbraham scores a last minute winner as Bolton Wanderers somehow end the day outside of the drop zone.
At the start of play Bolton needed a win and other results to go their way. The first half went well elsewhere. Burton were losing at Preston North End and Barnsley were losing at Derby. Bolton were all over Nottingham Forest but could not find a break through.
After the break it was more of the same until Adam Le Fondre was thrown onto the pitch. Within five minutes he had smashed a volley home in the six yard box and Bolton let. Around this time Preston went down to 10 men and Burton Albion pulled a goal back.
Bolton’s lead lasted two minutes and then it looked like it was all over. Forest took the lead and Burton were looking like grabbing a winner.
With five minutes left on the clock Bolton were down but the up steps David Wheater. He smashed the ball home form the edge of the box. Game on. Then up steps Wilbraham who headed home the winning goal almost on 90.
Bolton hold out to stay in the second tier. They always say save your best till last and fair play. I think I need a stiff drink to settle my nerves after that.
That is a bigger achievement than promotion last season. Enjoy the summer one and all.
