Bolton Wanderers have today signed defender Jonathan Grounds from Birmingham City on a season long loan deal. The 30 year old left-back joins the club shortly after the signing of goalkeeper Remi Matthews, from Norwich, as the club look to bolster their depth.

Grounds first broke into the game at Middlesborough after coming through their youth set-up and spent five years on Teesside, often playing alongside our very own Andrew Taylor. He spent a few years in League One with Oldham after leaving the North East in 2012 and after impressing with the Owls he was eventually signed in 2014 by Birmingham City.

He’s been a solid presence in the back line for the Blues over the past four years and though he is naturally a left-back he can also play at centre-back. A defensive full-back, one who is a similar player to Andrew Taylor, Parkinson will be hoping he provides a solid depth option and valuable Championship experience when called upon.

Here’s what he had to say on arrival:

‘‘I’m really excited to get going. I’m really pleased that I’m at Bolton Wanderers and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and getting going.’’

”Speaking to the manager was definitely one of the things that helped me make my decision, as well as how much he wanted to get me up here.’’

”It’s going to be a good place for me to come and play football and I’m ready for the challenge.”

Welcome to Bolton Jonathan!
