So Bolton Wanderers are currently losing 2-0 to Leeds United in the Carabao Cup first round.
That’s bad enough, but then the club decide it’s the perfect time to announce that fan favourite and cult hero, Adam Le Fondre, has left the club & is heading to Sydney FC in Australia.
The club issued the following statement:
“Adam Le Fondre has been given permission by Bolton Wanderers Football Club to speak with a club overseas regarding a possible transfer after being presented with an “opportunity of a lifetime”.
The striker, who has not featured in Wanderers’ Carabao Cup squad at Leeds United this evening, has expressed a strong desire to take on this new challenge.
Taking all factors into consideration, Bolton Wanderers Football Club has reluctantly agreed to allow the player to leave the club with immediate effect to pursue his ambitions.
Everybody at Bolton Wanderers Football Club would like to thank Adam for his excellent service to the club and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
Whilst I have no problem with Le Fondre deciding to leave, given the fact that he would have been playing less this season, the timing of the statement is pretty disrespectful and tactless to say the least.
It’s sad to see a player who was so beloved leave.
From his first goal against Fulham to his celebrated return to help the promotion push in 2017 - Adam Le Fondre has been part of some of the best moments being a Bolton Wanderers fans over the past few years. The Peterborough goal that sealed promotion, the screamer against Fulham, the Villa winner and his goal against Forest.
In 75 games, Le Fondre scored 21 goals.
Thanks for all the memories & best of luck in Australia with Sydney FC.
Ole, Ole.
