Bolton Wanderers: Infinity Wars

Where do we go from here?

A general view of the Reebok Stadium

Morning, friends.

Today is the day that we all anticipated but never quite believed would come. Bolton Wanderers, our beloved Bolton Wanderers, face the very real prospect of being placed into administration and being hit with a twelve point penalty - potentially undoing all the fine work that manager Phil Parkinson has done with the team this season.

We’ll know by 10am (ish). One way or another.

So what are the permutations?

a) It’s possible that Ken Anderson could wriggle his way out of this. Being honest, it seems that his statement last night on the official website makes this incredibly unlikely, but there’s always a chance and let’s face it, he’s done it before. He’s not in this alone and that’s what makes me wonder - although to counter that, if he had the means why wouldn’t he have done something before now? Even with what appears to be a Thanos-sized Messiah complex, this is very much last-minute territory.

b) Administration is the most real likelihood, or so it seems. This might not be a bad thing though as it would give us the opportunity to be sold to someone with (hopefully) deeper pockets than Kenny. If popular rumour be believed, his insistence on being paid a very substantial fee as part of any potential deal has cost us one very wealthy Arabian chap who went on to buy a club in Egypt and promptly spent £35m in a week. Hey ho.

c) Sam Allardyce swoops in at 9.59am and we all go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over. How’s that for a slice of fried gold?

OK so maybe point c) is ever so slightly fanciful, but given the oblivion that we are close to facing you must forgive me for trying to laugh in the face of imminent danger.

It’s going to be one helluva morning.
