It was a Boxing Day ‘cracker’ at The Stadium of Light as Bolton Wanderers walked away from Sunderland with a point against former manager Phil Parkinson.
Amidst vocal unrest amongst the Mackem fans calling for Parky to get the boot, Wanderers had plenty of chances to take the lead throughout the first half, with Ronan Darcy going close on more than one occasion.
The hosts did have the ball in the net when Flanagan headed in, though he was adjudged to have fouled Remi Matthews.
Sunderland grew into the game, with Remi called into action to deny Maguire and McNulty with two fantastic saves.
On another day, Daryl Murphy’s header midway through the second half, but it wasn’t to be.
It’s a solid point against a team in turmoil.
Wanderers move on to face Shrewsbury at home on Sunday. Phil Parkinson will be praying he keeps hold of his job.
Happy Boxing Day!
