Almost without exception, yesterday saw one of the most pathetic and pitiful performances that Bolton Wanderers have put together in the last few years.
Led, and I mean that sarcastically, by manager Phil Parkinson, our relegation-zone dwelling ‘heroes’ were never in the game against Preston North End and can only thank the opposition for their wasteful finishing which avoided us losing by at least five goals.
Heads should roll after that ‘performance’. You and I both know that they won’t, because the club is rotten from top to bottom.
Anyway. Ratings:
Remi Matthews - 5
I think he should have come out sooner for the second goal but he made two crucial saves that stopped us from reaching oblivion that bit sooner.
Jason Lowe - 4
If you think these ratings are negative then they’re nothing compared to the performance of Jason Lowe yesterday - summed up when given the responsibility of an attacking throw-in (cos surely he couldn’t mess that up) he proceeded to throw the ball 20 yards backwards into our own half. Diabolical.
Marc Wilson - 3
Another shocking performance from a player who was deemed to be not good enough for the worst team this division has seen in recent years. We may surpass that.
David Wheater - 4
Struggled against a lively and youthful PNE attack much as he has against most lively and quick opposition forwards for the last 18 months.
Jonathan Grounds - 3
Just abysmal. Anyone who makes Andy Taylor look competent should be considered hopeless.
Craig Noone - 3
I thought Will Buckley was our worst winger. I think I might be wrong. Noone was so poor that when he dived after a challenge by Fisher, the whole East Stand Lower laughed at him.
So poor.
Gary O’Neil - 4
Playing wide right, or so we thought, he put in a great cross in the first ten minutes and then spent the rest of the game avoiding the right flank. It’s hard to fathom.
Callum Connolly - 4
Poor in midfield but was improved slightly when moved to left-back. Chugged a fair old bit when asked to put in the hard yards tracking back which was surprising. A nothing performance which, on the basis of, means he’ll fit in nicely here.
Luca Connell - N/A
Injured early on after a few nice touches.
Sammy Ameobi - 3
I really like Sammy but there’s no escaping that yesterday was a low point in his time at Wanderers.
His every-now-and-then sort of form seems like a distant memory. I honestly cannot remember when he last put in a performance that was even vaguely acceptable.
Josh Magennis - 5
Put in a shift that was as honest as they come, but had precisely zero service from his teammate. Is playing a whole division above his natural level but at least he tries.
SUBS
Clayton Donaldson - 4
Scored a goal for the first time since the Y2K virus was a thing. His arrival into the game, presumably as a ‘gamechanger’ is yet another symbol of our downfall.
Josh Vela - 4
I cannot remember a single thing that he did in the entire game.
Joe Pritchard - N/A
Barely on for long enough to warrant a rating.
MANAGER
Phil Parkinson - 0
Get out of my club.
What goodwill existed has long been exhausted.
You are part of the problem now.
