MOTM: Bolton Wanderers 1-2 Ipswich Town - Luca Connell

The only one who looked half interested.

It is a sorry sight that a player gets MOTM just for working hard, but after that performance on Saturday, there were only a few positives, Luca Connell being one of them.

After replacing the injured Gary O’Neil in the 41st minute, the Republic of Ireland U19 international showed again his desire and willingness to do all he can for this club - something that can’t be said after the performances of some of his more senior teammates.

For a player so young, he offers so much composure on the ball and looks as if he always knows where he’s about to play his next pass. Despite the disappointing result, Luca yet again displayed just how important he could be in our club’s future. Please sign a new contract, Luca. Please.

Special mention must also go to Erhun Oztumer. Despite only getting 20 minutes or so, he offered more creativity in this short period than we’ve seen during the majority of the season. His attacking intent is something we so desperately needed from the start versus Ipswich.

Does this mean that we will see these two both in the team to face Boro tonight? Of course it doesn't. I think Parky may be forced to stick with Luca depending on the extent of O’Neil’s injury.

As this club’s future yet again hangs in the balance, and no one truly knows it’s destiny. One thing is for sure, this lad is going to go very far in the game. I’m sure I speak on behalf of every Wanderers fan when I say I hope we manage to keep hold of Luca beyond the summer. The sky is the limit for this boy.
