Having been linked with an unlikely £4 million move back in January, former Bolton Wanderers winger Sammy Ameobi is now set to move to Nottingham Forest for free.
The Nottingham Post, via a reveal from the Telegraph’s John Percy, state:
”Nottingham Forest are set to sign former Bolton Wanderers forward Sammy Ameobi in the next 24 hours.
Ameobi is a free agent after leaving Bolton following their relegation to League One and the Post understands the deal is on the brink of being concluded.
The 27-year-old scored four goals and had the same number of assists in 31 appearances last season.
He is a player Forest have been linked with more than once before and would add to Martin O’Neill’s attacking options in what will be the first signing of the summer.”
Ameobi was a divisive figure during his two & a half years with the club.
Having had a fantastic loan spell in League One, everyone was delighted to see him return on a permanent basis in 2017.
Sadly, the Ameobi who could change a game single handedly largely disappeared & we rarely got the see the talent he clearly has.
We’ll forever remember moments like his brilliant Bristol City solo goal, but that will be tarnished by the way he drifted out of games completely.
When Sammy was on form, he was unplayable. But we didn’t see that form enough & he was often a passenger in important games.
It’s a real shame.
Anyway, best of luck at Forest, Sammy.
